![]() Page 4 Nancy Diedrich Nancy Diedrich says that as an artist she is "something of a dabbler," but I must say that she comes up with some very lovely "dabblings." She has dabbled with charcoal, watercolor, and oils. She's also done woodcarving, specializing in wildfowl, which she then paints with oils. They are so realistic you dare not touch them lest you crush their feathers. Nancy was born in England and attended a school that encouraged her artistic talents; she was awarded an Oxford school certificate with "distinction" in art. After moving to Oregon, Nancy found herself surrounded by beautiful landscapes, which became the main subject of her oil paintings. Later she moved to New Mexico, where her pallet changed to shades of turquoise, sienna, and sage, and the subject matter to the inspirational magic of the great Southwest. Nancy now lives in Seattle and during the recent summer she was in a "floral state of mind." She always starts with a charcoal drawing in order to preserve the integrity of the sources of light and shadows of the original image she has in mind. She says, "That way, the concept stays whole until it is translated into color. A few of Nancy's dabblings are shown here. Hopefully, there will be more to come. |
